148For the quantitative measurement of digoxin in serum, as an aid in monitoring the therapeutic administration of this cardioglycoside, while avoiding toxicity.
Collect: Red Top Tube - 0.5 ml.
Specimen Preparation: Collect blood in Red Top Tube, noting the time of collection, just before the next dose — or, in any case, no less than six hours after the administration of this cardioglycoside, to avoid misleadingly high digoxin results. Allow blood samples to clot (15 mins). Separate the serum from the cells by centrifuging for 10 minutes. Store serum at 2-8°C until analysis.
Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated.
